Inside the story

The premise

A neural research programme places the boundaries of memory and self under pressure. Isla encounters recollections that should not belong to other people, while the systems meant to record experience begin to alter the meaning of evidence.

The Parallax Key explores what happens when versions of a consciousness can diverge and compete. Its central question concerns continuity: what makes a person the same person when memory itself can be copied, changed or returned from somewhere else?

Themes to explore

  • Memory and identity: the uncertain basis of a continuous self.
  • Copies and survival: the ethical stakes of competing versions of a person.
  • Systems and evidence: what can be trusted when the machinery of observation shapes the observer.

What to expect

Speculative fiction with psychological tension, neural technology and recursive patterns. An author-published version is available on Substack, and the title is also listed in Craig Wright's Ream story library.
